Obituary for Marvin J. Taylor

Marvin James Taylor, 94, passed away peacefully on February 2nd at Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital. Barrington, IL.
Marvin was born January 31, 1926 to James and Irene (Perra) Taylor in Maple Lake MN. He was the 2nd oldest of 9 children. Marvin was raised in MN, WI and IL.
Marvin served in the Army Air Force during World War 2 from 1944 - 1946, serving as an Armament Air Inspector receiving multiple medals including: Victory Medal, American Theater Ribbon, Asiatic Pacific Ribbon and Good Conduct medal before being honorably discharged.
As a Corporal, Marvin met his wife of 71 years, Marilee Flynn, in Barrington IL and they married on September 17, 1948. They have 5 children: Kevin (Kathie), Michael, Kathleen (Norm) Hall, Rebecca (Steve) Roach and Marcia (Paul) Sapien, 14 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren and his siblings Amelia Zimmerman, Shirley (Marvin) Zoellick, Floyd (Virginia) Taylor, Penny (Jack) Pociask. He is preceeded in death by his parents James and Irene Taylor and his brothers Robert, Donald, Albert and Lester.
Marvin and Marilee raised their kids in Island Lake IL, where they were very active residents.
Marvin served as Mayor in 1964, was a little league coach and a volunteer fireman for 16 years. He was an active member of the Community Congregational church where he served as Deacon. He was part of the Lions Club, served as village trustee. Marvin also served as President of the Illinois Snowmobile Association. Marvin retired as a union carpenter, in his retirement he and Marilee packed up their RV and traveled most states including Alaska.
On June 4th, 2014 he flew the Honor Flight to Washington DC accompanied by his daughter and 85 other World War 2 veterans. Finally settling in Edinburg TX for the winter months to avoid the cold. The last two years were spent in Wauconda full time enjoying his twilight years in the comfort of his home.
Visitation will be Saturday Feb. 8th, 2020, from 11:00 am to time of service at 2:00 pm at the Kisselburg-Wauconda Funeral Home 235 N. Main St., Wauconda, IL.
